Lots of Local Organizations Need Support Throughout The Year
Whatever your faith, no matter what your beliefs, surely gratitude is in order for many of us in the San Gabriel Valley during this month of holidays. For those of us with a roof over our heads, food in our bellies, and access to the Internet (if not a heating and air conditioning system to call our very own), there is much for which we can always be thankful. Amidst the storms of political discourse and civil unrest across the world, our little corner of the San Gabriel Valley remains at peace. And that alone is always a miracle worth celebrating.
Yet as we give thanks this year, we cannot forget those in our community who might need a little help during the holiday season and beyond. For some, this is a time of year that brings only loneliness, and a reminder of what is lacking, rather than what is. Whatever you choose to donate this holiday, you can always give the gift of yourself to others. A friendly greeting, a sincere “thank you” to someone serving us in a busy checkout line, or even just a warm holiday smile to a stranger may still make a difference to a person who has not had the privilege of hope and joy this December.
Ideas for giving:
Foothill Unity Center: This organization was founded in 1980 and provides food, shelter, transportation, and more for people in crisis throughout the San Gabriel Valley. We know personally several families who have turned to the Center in times of need and found support, supplies, and even in one case, a Christmas football, baseball mitt, and brand-new Star Wars Lego set for their little one. Foothill Unity Center accepts donations throughout the year to help their clients with food, school supplies, clothing, toys, shoes, and even haircuts. They also have a very strong volunteer program and are always looking for someone willing to give their time and service.

Pasadena Humane Society: As a donor-supported nonprofit devoted to homeless animals and pets in the greater Los Angeles area, the Pasadena Humane Society provides medical care, shelter, and rescue services for all animals in need throughout the Southland. With plenty of volunteer opportunities as well as a roster of available pets for adoption, the Pasadena Humane Society remains a vital resource for a world where too many dogs and cats never find their forever homes.

Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills: Did you know the mission of the Boys and Girls Club? Well, it’s a lofty one: to enable all children, especially those in need, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. Who can argue with that? With three locations in Monrovia, the Boys and Girls Club of the Foothills plays a vital role in the lives of many local children. Please consider donating to this worthwhile organization that offers proven, measurable results in increasing the high school graduation rates and later productivity of those it serves.

Whatever you decide to give, please accept our thank you this year for being the most generous, warm, and pleasantest folks we’ve ever had the chance to meet. You make our work a pleasure, clogged air filters or not.
And please, have a beautiful holiday.
